Let’s discuss how we can help you.

According to Circana in 2023 the Canadian beauty market grew 18% from January to September and it is estimated to be worth $11 billion CAD ($8 billion USD). The beauty and personal care industry in Canada includes cosmetics, skincare, haircare, fragrances, and other personal hygiene products. It is a dynamic and growing sector, driven by changing consumer preferences, increasing awareness of personal care, and the rise of eco-consciousness. Despite being the second-largest country in the world, Canada has a small population of approximately 40 million inhabitants, that said, it is also amongst the countries with the largest proportion of GDP, with a high average wealth per adult.

Sephora dominates the Canadian beauty landscape as the largest beauty retailer and the most-visited cosmetics website in the country. Twenty-five percent of Sephora’s top volume sales doors are in Canada. With a strong multichannel strategy, Sephora has mastered success in Canada, operating more than 100 stores nationwide alongside a robust online presence. Shoppers Drug Mart, called Pharmaprix in Quebec, has more than 1300 stores across the country, and carries a mix of drugstore and high-end brands. Hudson’s Bay has 86 stores, and luxury department store Holt Renfrew, has seven stores.

Unlike the US market, much of the population is concentrated in a handful of major cities, which means online shopping is a necessity.  Amazon Canada, part of the global Amazon network, provides Canadians with access to a wide variety of beauty products from numerous brands and sellers. Rather than being based in a single location, Amazon operates extensive distribution centres across Canada to ensure fast and efficient deliveries. Launching a brand in Canada is not without challenges. Higher taxes, stricter employment laws and a more rural landscape mean Canada comes with a new set of challenges. Brands launching in Quebec also need to factor in that all documentation needs to be translated into French.
